IEP Pal

An Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a legally binding document outlining a student's learning profile, the accommodations they are entitled to, their measurable goals, and the support services the school is responsible for providing. Every student receiving learning support has one, and managing them well is the difference between meaningful support and a student being passed through the system.

IEP Pal is a learning support platform I co-founded with Ansel Natarajan to centralize IEP creation, data collection, goal tracking, and strategy planning into a single tool, replacing the patchwork of spreadsheets, PDFs, and disconnected LMSes most schools currently rely on, and returning teachers' time to the relational work that actually moves outcomes for students.

Before writing a line of code, we ran teacher surveys, parent interviews, and formal interviews with educators across seven countries, with my findings written up as a research paper. The defining insight was that teachers aren't short on data; they are overloaded with the wrong kind. The platform is therefore built around the Street Data Framework, surfacing the real-time observational evidence teachers actually use day-to-day, rather than lagging end-of-quarter assessments.

The platform includes a custom qualitative survey builder (Likert scales, checkboxes, free text); data visualisations including boxplots, bar charts, and predictive trend lines; and a strategy library of 150+ evidence-based interventions I curated from 12 books spanning behavioural support, emotional regulation, literacy, and executive function. Statistical analysis tools determine whether a strategy is helping a given student and surface recommendations on how best to support that individual. Built on AWS Amplify with role-based access and encrypted storage.

Development began in mid-2024 and continued through Ansel's and my mandatory national service in the Singapore Armed Forces. The MVP shipped in March 2026 and we are now looking for schools to pilot with. If you represent a school that may be interested, please reach out through our website.

PS: I had an IEP myself growing up, for anxiety issues as a kid. I have a personal connection to these problems I am aiming to solve, and my goal is to drive palpable change in the learning support space, helping to ensure that no student is left without the support their education demands.
